Going to Extremes to Hide the JohnSAN FRANCISCO (San Francisco Chronicle) — The spate of outhouse fires on San Francisco’s Russian Hill has caused one construction company to go to great lengths to protect its port-a-potty.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports Dana Hayden won’t even reveal where his firm’s disguised mobile toilet is parked, for fear it will become the 15th in a series of arson fires in the area over the last two months.
He did say it’s covered in plywood on two sides to make the plastic privy look like a storage shed.
The ruse seems to be working. Last week an unobstructed outhouse on an adjacent sight was torched but Hayden’s camouflaged commode remains untouched.
None of the arsons have damaged any of the homes or real estate on Russian Hill so far but police and firefighters have stepped up nighttime patrols in the area.
